CAPE PANWA
is a peninsula located on Phuket. It’s surrounded by water at every corner and is famous for its protected harbours, safe swimming, and easy access to the numerous islands located off Phuket’s East coast.
If you plan on visiting Panwa, be sure to go on a day trip to some of the nearby islands. A few of these include the following:
Koh Bon – be sure to try the island restaurant run by British expat Dawn. The island is only 10-15 min long tail boat ride away from any coastline in Panwa.
Koh Racha – Racha is just visible from the west coast of Cape Panwa on a clear day. It is a 35 min speedboat ride away and is full of activities upon arrival.
Koh Maiton – A hidden gem of an island, just off Panwa. Very few people but some of the best snorkeling to be found!
Coral Island – similar to Racha island, with lots of activities.
To rent a Long Tail boat per day is only 4,000 baht/day to explore at your will!
PANWA is also home to some really great ON THE BEACH restaurants such as:
Brasserie – Classy and delicious oysters and french food on Ao Yon beach!
Beach Bar – Sand in your toes type restaurant, with cheap thai food and drinks on Khao Khad beach.
The Cove – The Cove is located in just that – a cove – with great food, atmosphere & scenery.
You literally could spend an entire day with the family at any of the 3 restaurants above.
Cape Panwa is pretty quiet at night but luckily it is only a 10 min drive away from Phuket Town, which has a lot of funky bars, restaurants, and old Portuguese architecture.
Here are a few spots in Phuket Town, not to be missed while staying in Cape Panwa:
Prohibition Bar – Good drinks, free popcorn, and great board games like cards against humanity.
Kopitam – Chinese Thai, a staple in Phuket Town.
Flavour Restaurant – Belgian food with 20 seats. Delicious.
Kids Sailing School
Sailing Asia. Ao Yon is a great place to learn to sail because it is a protected harbour with not much ocean traffic. Sailing is a wonderful skill for kids to have and what a beautiful setting to learn in. They also have courses for adults!
Catamaran Rentals
If you’re looking for something a bit more comfortable than a long tail boat, there are a few catamarans available for rent in Panwa. They are chartered by a Dutchman expatriate and he can show you all his favourite shops.
Deep Sea Fishing
The best fishing in Phuket lies just off the coast of Panwa. Fish available to catch include tuna, mahi mahi, mackerel, barracuda, & sailfish. The captain (who is a retired british expat) also lives in Panwa and knows all the best spots depending on the season and the weather.
